33 Hospitals Receive A’s for Excellence

ORLANDO, Fla. (November 4, 2016) – The Florida Health Care Coalition announced this week the release of the Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, published by national nonprofit watchdog The Leapfrog Group. Assigning A, B, C, D, and F letter grades, the Hospital Safety Grade provides the most complete picture of avoidable hospital errors, accidents and infections that kill or harm hundreds of thousands of patients every year. Over 2,600 general acute-care hospitals received a grade this fall.

In Florida, grades were assigned to 145 hospitals with 33 receiving an “A”, the highest letter grade, showcasing a distinct dedication to safe care.

“Every community deserves to be served by hospitals that prioritize patient safety. The Florida Health Care Coalition’s dedication to increasing hospital safety and transparency has directly impacted the care that Florida receives,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We thank The Florida Health Care Coalition for its strong leadership and steadfast commitment to the health and wellbeing of its community members.”

“By working collaboratively with our community hospitals, we can help improve the care that every patient in Florida receives,” said Florida Health Car Coalition President and CEO Karen van Caulil, PhD. “We acknowledge the front-line caregivers, hospital leadership, patient advocates, and all those who are helping us reduce patient harm. I’d like to personally congratulate our A-rated hospitals for setting an example for other hospitals… to continue making patient safety a top priority.”
