FLHCC President Appointed to National Health Information Technology Policy Committee

Orlando, Fla. (June 7, 2016) - The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has appointed Florida Health Care Coalition President and CEO Karen van Caulil to the Health Information Technology (HIT) Policy Committee as a member representing employers. She will serve a three-year term.

The HIT Policy Committee is charged with making recommendations to the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology relating to the implementation of a nationwide health IT infrastructure. The Committee recommends areas in which standards and certification criteria are needed and recommends priorities for the development, harmonization and recognition of these standards.

"Serving as a member on this committee comes with great responsibility to represent employers and I am eager to be their advocate."

The Health IT Policy Committee is comprised of:
  • 3 individuals appointed by the Secretary of HHS
  • 13 members appointed by the Acting Comptroller General of the United States
  • 4 members appointed by the Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate and the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives
  • Additional Federal members appointed by the President
